The Bluestone Foundation

The Bluestone Foundation was launched in 2010 and is a Charitable Trust administered under the Charities Aid Foundation. Since then over £250,000 in grants have been distributed across Pembrokeshire.

Created by Commercial Director, Mrs. Pamela McNamara, the Bluestone Foundation strives to help people help themselves and to principally assist projects falling within three categories: economic, social, and environmental.

Building  A Better Future

The Bluestone Foundation was established to help people to help themselves through environmental, economic, and social projects in Pembrokeshire. The Foundation underpins the ethos of Bluestone National Park Resort; our unique and beautiful county and its people are close to our hearts. We plan to provide economic growth and social opportunities to the people of West Wales through projects funded by the money we raise.

We are proud to work in partnership with PAVs who help applications through the process before passing them on for the consideration of the Bluestone Foundation Committee, made up of employees from around the resort. The Foundation is supported by the generous donations of the guest on the resort and through fundraisers organised by the 700 staff on the resort.

Projects

In 2017, the Bluestone Foundation Community Fund donated over £21,000 in grants and support to various projects around the county of Pembrokeshire. Here are just some of the projects that we have supported...

The VC Gallery

We have been proud supporters of the VC Gallery from their very early days. An organisation based in Haverfordwest, The VC Gallery helps veterans and the community through the medium of art engagement. The group is led by Barry John MBE, an artist and former Royal Welsh soldier who served for 24 years.

Pembrokeshire’s Darwin Centre

The Darwin Centre has a rather amazing aim which is to work with every school in Pembrokeshire and every academic year. They carry out field trips and workshops on many subjects linked to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths.

PATCH

Since June 2008 PATCH has been giving free food parcels, clothing, and household items to those in a financial crisis in Pembrokeshire. PATCH was awarded a grant from the Bluestone Foundation Community Fund in 2017 so that they could purchase a chilled vehicle meaning that they could collect and deliver donations of fresh food around the county.

Action for Children

The Hawthorne Project applied for help with start-up costs for a coffee shop at Haverfordwest Magistrates Courts. The project will provide disabled young people with training opportunities and work experience.

The Fishguard Sea Cadets

The Fishguard Sea Cadet Unit, known as TS 'Skirmisher' was established in 1942, with Headquarters in West Street, Fishguard. The unit applied to the Foundation for support in the purchasing of an additional Yole boat for the club which would expand the organisation’s ability to accommodate more young people in the sport of sliding seat rowing.

Paul Sartori

The Paul Sartori Foundation offers Pembrokeshire’s only Hospice at Home Service, established for those with a life-limiting illness. The Bluestone Foundation has offered assistance in the development of an online sales site that will allow them the opportunity to sell donated goods.

The Tanyard

The Tanyard Youth Project was established in 2005 to provide a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for the children and young people of Pembroke and its surrounding areas. A successful application to the Bluestone Foundation has secured an Autistic Spectrum Condition Youth Outreach Worker to plan and lead weekly sessions for children and young people with extracurricular education and leisure activities.

Pembrokeshire People First

Pembrokeshire People First is an independent charity, run by and for adults with learning disabilities and/or autism. The support from the Bluestone Foundation will provide a document translation service for those with learning difficulties and a range of equipment, software, and training to develop an online “Easy Read PhotoShop”.
